I am always looking around for the perfect IDE. I've used quite a few over the years, but I always end up coming back to Eclipse / PDT, mainly because it's packed full of features, and I am used to it.
Eclipse does have it's drawbacks, running on Java it tends to be a bit of a memory hog after a few hours, and can need a restart of the program. There are also a few other quirky things that you just get used to putting up with (or not).
I downloaded NuSphere PhpED the other day after reading some rave reviews. It's probably about the best IDE I've tried so far, next to Eclipse. In fact, I think it's probably got a fair few more features in it.
The startup speed is almost instant (it runs almost as fast as Notepad++ but is a fully fledged IDE), and has the usual good stuff; syntax highlighting, code completion, PHP manual / functions, templates, snippets, workspaces etc. I am going to stick with it for a while and see how it goes, but it's a serious contender.
Anyway, give it a go, you might be surprised how feature packed it is!
